Hilton Head Island teacher Marcia Dillon hugs students Aaliyah Orage, center, and Sophie Duncan while walking the first lap with other cancer survivors Friday evening during the HIlton Head Island Relay for Life at the Island Rec Center. Dillon, a fourth-grade teacher at Hilton Head Island Elementary and a ten year colon cancer survivor also was announced the school's Teacher of the Year by the Beaufort County School District today.

The three-masted gaff topsail Alliance, left, and the square topsail schooner Lynx are tied up in the Savannah River in front of the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center on Hutchinson Island in Savannah Thursday morning. The ships, as well as 12 other tall ships, are here for the 2012 Savannah Tall Ships Challenge, an event organized by Tall Ships America that will offer tours and excursions through Sunday. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.savannahtallshipschallenge.com or at numerous ticket booths on River Street or at the convention center on the island.

Trees continue to smolder Thursday afternoon at the site of Wednesday's large brush fire off of S.C. 170 on Lemon Island. The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office found remnants of fireworks near the scene and is treating it as a suspicious fire.

The sculpture, by North Carolina sculptor Jonathan Bowling, was unveiled during a ceremony on Thursday morning at its permanent home along William Hilton Parkway across from the Hilton Head Resort. The site on the edge of Broad Creek is on a plot of land that would be part of the proposed Chaplin Linear Park.
