5/25/12 Jay Karr The/Island Packet--A sheriff's deputy talks to some young beachgoers on Friday afternoon while patrolling the very busy Coligny Beach area on Hilton Head Island. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office says it is prepared for the invasion of Ohio University and other college students to Hilton Head on their annual Memorial Day weekend beach trek. Town Council member Kim Likins says Forest Beach owners have been complaining to her about the noise and mess the students cause. The Sheriff’s Office plans to step up what is calls “proactive patrols,” where it tries to keep kids out of trouble with warnings.

Claxton was hoping to hook and capture the alligator, which had made off with a youngster's soccer ball over the weekend, but every time he got within casting distance, the creature disappear beneath the surface.
